A P2.5 million bounty has been placed on the life of Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro, a threat she addressed publicly on Saturday, February 7.
Despite this, Baricuatro remains resolute in her commitment to her duties and insists that the danger will not stop her from fulfilling her role as a public servant.
Speaking out against the assassination plot, the governor declared that she is “fearless in the face of death” and will not back down from her responsibilities.
“I will continue to serve, and I will not allow this to stop me from working for the people,” she stated firmly.
Baricuatro revealed that intelligence reports have pointed to a hired gun from Mindanao who has allegedly been paid millions to carry out the assassination.
The governor suspects that the threat is politically motivated, linked to efforts by her opponents to destabilize her leadership.
The bounty was first disclosed by Baricuatro in a social media post on Friday, but she reassured the public that the threat would not alter her dedication.
“I will be more careful with my security, but nothing will change about my commitment to serve,” she affirmed.
Local authorities have already begun investigating the plot, with the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) prioritizing the case.
The CPPO is working to verify the threat and, if true, will increase security measures to ensure the governor’s safety, particularly as she frequently attends public events.
In addition to the threat on her life, Baricuatro also addressed rumors surrounding her role in the suspension of Minglanilla Mayor Rajiv Enad and other local officials.
She dismissed any connection to the administrative action, which had been linked to allegations of abuse of authority over a permit in Sitio Napo, Barangay Guindarohan.
“This appears to be a tactic from my opponents, trying to create tension between me and other local leaders,” Baricuatro said, reiterating that she had no involvement in the suspension and stressing that the decision was based on a legal matter unrelated to political influence.
