Lapu-Lapu Ctiy is proposing a P5.13-billion budget for 2027, increasing allocations for social and economic services as the city prepares for growing public service demands and the anticipated El Niño phenomenon.
Mayor Ma. Cynthia “Cindi” King-Chan turned over the proposed annual budget to the City Council on Friday, Oct. 16, for review and approval, with Vice Mayor Celedonio “Celsi” Sitoy joining the turnover.
The proposed P5,130,727,497 budget is P409.78 million higher than the city’s P4.72-billion spending plan for 2026.
King-Chan said the executive branch had carefully studied the proposed budget, prioritizing health and education while ensuring the city has sufficient resources to prepare for the expected El Niño.
Of the proposed budget, P4.66 billion will go to the general fund, while P437.34 million is earmarked for the city hospital and P33.3 million for the city market and slaughterhouse.
The general fund is expected to increase by P404.7 million, from P4.26 billion in 2026 to P4.66 billion in 2027.
Economic services will receive one of the biggest increases, with the proposed allocation rising by P249.57 million, from P425.96 million to P675.53 million.
Funding for social services will also increase by P242.41 million, from P528.96 million to P771.38 million.
In contrast, the proposed allocation for general public services will decrease by P171.6 million, from P2.02 billion to P1.85 billion.
The city is also proposing P448.26 million for development projects, an increase of P43.5 million from the previous year.
Its Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund will rise from P212.77 million to P233 million, providing additional funding for disaster preparedness and response.
For health services, the proposed allocation will increase from P514.47 million to P525.68 million. Education services will also receive more funding, rising from P98.93 million to P108.32 million.
Assistance to barangays, however, will remain at P51.1 million.
The proposed budget for the city hospital will increase by P4.78 million, from P432.57 million to P437.34 million, while funding for the city market and slaughterhouse will rise slightly from P33 million to P33.3 million.
The proposed spending plan will undergo City Council review before it can be approved and implemented for fiscal year 2027.
