Sinulog 2027 is taking shape months ahead of the festival, with organizers already working on its program and coordinating activities across different clusters.
Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) Executive Director Jojo Labella said preparations began earlier than for the previous edition as the foundation works to organize the festival’s activities.
Among the planned additions is an on-the-spot painting competition that will allow spectators to watch visual artists create their works during the festivities.
Labella said the competition will incorporate historical, religious and thematic elements, bringing visual arts into the cultural activities of Sinulog.
The foundation is also preparing for the participation of seven contingents from Cebu Province that recently performed in Halad sa Pagtuo, a province-led celebration centered on faith and Cebuano culture.
The contingents are Sinulog sa Carmen, Tuba Festival of Borbon, Bisnok Festival of Dumanjug, La Torta Festival of Argao, Hinulawan Festival of Toledo City, Dagitab Festival of Naga City and Kabkaban Festival of Carcar City.
Their participation will give Sinulog another platform to showcase traditions and cultural expressions from different parts of Cebu.
While the complete festival calendar is still being finalized, SFI has already set Jan. 17, 2027 as the date for the Sinulog Grand Parade.
The Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) will remain the main venue for major festival activities.
Labella said SFI is also looking beyond the 2027 celebration, with its leadership beginning to discuss the longer-term direction of Sinulog through 2028.
