Narrow roads and interior barangay areas in Mandaue City will soon be easier to reach for flood-mitigation crews after the city added two smaller vacuum trucks to its drainage-clearing operations.
Mayor Thadeo “Jonkie” Ouano said the equipment will allow the city’s declogging and dredging teams to work in areas that cannot be reached by its existing 10-wheeler vacuum trucks.
“Bisan pa’g init pa kaayo, sige-sige sad ni sila’g tuyok sa mga kabaranggayan. Dako sad ni’g tabang ilabi na sa interior portions nga dili masudlan sa atong 10-wheeler nga vacuum truck,” Ouano said.
He said city teams have continued inspecting and clearing drainage systems in different barangays as part of preparations for possible heavy rains.
City Engineer’s Office engineer Louie Rey Biton said the smaller units were specifically acquired for narrow roads and alleyways where larger vacuum trucks cannot operate.
“The intention and purpose nato aning vacuum trucks nga gagmay kay para maka-access siya sa eskinita, so hopefully ma-declog ug ma-desilt na nato ang gagmay nga eskinita nga drainage,” Biton said.
The smaller trucks will be used to remove accumulated mud, debris and vegetation from drainage systems and creeks in areas with limited access.
The two vacuum trucks were formally turned over to the city government on Sept. 14.
Ouano also said the city is expecting two mobile pump trucks that will be used to remove accumulated floodwater.
The additional equipment will supplement the city’s existing declogging and dredging operations, particularly in interior areas where access has been a challenge.
