Cebu City has recorded 1,228 dengue cases and 10 deaths from Jan. 1 to July 18, prompting the city government to create a task force to strengthen its response to the disease.
Mayor Nestor Archival issued Executive Order No. 097 creating the Cebu City Dengue Task Force (CCDTF) under the Office of the City Mayor.
The task force will coordinate dengue prevention and control efforts with barangays, schools, hospitals, national government agencies and other stakeholders.
It will also monitor dengue cases, identify areas requiring urgent intervention, mobilize resources and coordinate measures such as cleanup drives, mosquito control and public information campaigns.
The Cebu City Health Department will remain the city’s lead technical and implementing office for dengue prevention and control.
The executive order identified Guadalupe, Basak San Nicolas, Lahug, Labangon, Tisa, Mambaling, Kalunasan, Punta Princesa, Pasil, Camputhaw, Duljo, Quiot and Talamban among the barangays with the highest number of reported cases.
Meanwhile, San Nicolas Central, Pasil, Sto. Niño, Sawang Calero, Ermita, Sirao, Careta, Kamagayan, San Antonio and Sambag 2 were listed among the barangays with the highest dengue incidence rates.
The task force will also support the Department of Health’s 5S Dengue Prevention Strategy, which calls for searching for and destroying mosquito breeding sites, securing self protection, seeking early consultation, supporting vector control and sustaining hydration.
The city government said the task force is intended to strengthen coordination and ensure that dengue prevention and response measures are implemented in areas where they are most needed.
