The Cebu Provincial Government has added 1,364 healthcare personnel to its workforce since July 2025 as it continues to address staffing needs across its 16 provincial hospitals.
Data from the Provincial Human Resource Management Office showed that the Capitol’s healthcare workforce reached 3,043 personnel as of Aug. 26, 2026.
Of the total, 1,679 were already employed as of June 2025, while 1,364 joined the provincial government’s health system beginning July 2025.
The new hires make up 44.8 percent of the province’s current healthcare workforce.
The additions include 199 doctors, 368 nurses and 181 allied health workers. Another 615 personnel were hired for ancillary and administrative positions supporting hospital operations.
The province has added a combined 748 doctors, nurses and allied health professionals under the current administration, aside from personnel filling other hospital positions.
The provincial government cited medical technologist staffing as one area where the additional personnel have expanded services.
Previously, only five of the province’s 16 hospitals had round-the-clock medical technologist coverage. The province now reports that all 16 hospitals have 24-hour coverage.
At Cebu Provincial Hospital-Danao, the province is piloting extended weekday outpatient services until 10 p.m. to provide patients with more options for accessing care.
The provincial government also cited Bantayan District Hospital, where personnel can perform emergency and laparoscopic procedures using the hospital’s equipment and in-house teams.
For patients in geographically isolated areas such as Bantayan, the availability of these services could reduce the need to travel outside the island for certain procedures.
Meanwhile, 291 healthcare employees have taken their oath following promotion or regularization under the current administration.
The provincial government said the personnel actions aim to provide employees with greater job security while helping retain experienced workers in the hospital system.
Hiring, personnel evaluation and “rightsizing” also continue across the 16 provincial hospitals based on workload, staffing requirements, qualifications, performance and available plantilla positions.
The Capitol is also seeking additional medical specialists and surgeons as it prepares hospitals for upgrades and expanded services.
It is continuing programs involving medical scholarships, return-of-service placements, hospital-based training and partnerships with the Department of Health for physician deployment and professional development.
