Cebu City police arrested a 20-year-old culinary arts graduate after he allegedly posted a TikTok threat to carry out a school shooting at a private university in Cebu City.
Police arrested the suspect at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, at Purok Mangga, Barangay Altavista, Poro, Camotes Island, nearly two days after the alleged post.
Police said the suspect wrote, “Mag school shooting ko ara ugma,” in the comment section of a TikTok livestream.
A student who saw the post reported it to the Parian Police Station and the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Unit.
The police traced the account and identified the suspect, leading to a hot-pursuit operation headed by Police Major Jade Campo Sumugat, acting chief of Parian Police Station 1.
Authorities arrested the suspect in Camotes Island and brought him into police custody for investigation.
Police are preparing to file a complaint for an alleged violation of Republic Act 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
The arrest came as authorities across Cebu heightened security in schools following recent school shooting incidents and threats in other parts of the country.
Police continue to investigate the alleged threat and the circumstances surrounding the TikTok post.
