Three vendors at the Marigondon Fish Market were cited by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) for violating Lapu-Lapu City’s single-use plastics ordinance during an inspection conducted over the weekend.
The inspection on July 25 formed part of the city’s continued enforcement of City Ordinance No. 16-182-2025, or the Single-Use Plastics Ordinance, which regulates the use of prohibited disposable plastic materials.
CENRO personnel issued citation tickets to the three vendors found using banned single-use plastic products and reminded market vendors and business establishments to comply with the ordinance to avoid penalties.
Under Section 8 of the ordinance, small-scale businesses committing a first offense may face a fine of P500 to P1,000 and receive a warning that their business permit may be suspended if further violations occur.
A second offense carries a fine of P2,000 to P3,000 and a 15-day suspension of the establishment’s business permit.
For a third offense, businesses may be fined P4,000 to P5,000 and may face indefinite closure, while a fourth offense may lead to the permanent revocation of the business permit by the City Mayor’s Office.
CENRO said the inspection is part of its ongoing campaign to strengthen compliance with environmental regulations and reduce plastic waste in public markets and commercial areas.
The office continues to promote waste segregation, waste reduction, responsible consumption, and the implementation of a purok-based recycling system as part of the city’s environmental protection initiatives.
Aside from the Single-Use Plastics Ordinance, CENRO also enforces the Comprehensive Environmental and Sanitation Code and the 2019 Environment-Friendly Ordinance, which prohibits the use of plastic drinking straws.
City officials said continued enforcement of these measures aims to encourage environmental responsibility among vendors and residents while reducing plastic pollution and protecting public health in Lapu-Lapu City.
