Mandaue to distribute ‘Edukahon’ kits to public school students

The Mandaue City Government will distribute school supply kits to public school students as part of its efforts to support learners ahead of the school year.

Around 38,975 students are expected to receive the “Edukahon” kits, which contain basic school supplies for learners from kindergarten to Grade 6.

City Administrator Atty. Gonzalo Malig-on Jr. said around 11,100 educational kits will be distributed to Grade 5 and Grade 6 students, while 27,875 kits will be given to kindergarten and Grade 1 to Grade 4 learners.

In an interview, Malig-on said the distribution is targeted in early August, with the city government already completing the procurement of the supplies.

He said the school kits were selected based on the needs of students and within the available budget.

“Mao ang mas needed nila and mao sad ang maabot sa budget,” Malig-on said.

The city administrator added that the Edukahon distribution will become an annual program, with funding to be allocated every year for its implementation.

Each Edukahon box will contain a school bag, notebooks, pens, pencils, a raincoat, and other basic school materials.

Mayor Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano said the program is funded through the city’s Special Education Fund.

Ouano said he had already inspected the education kits and found them appropriate for students.

“Kita nako, and nindot siya, excited ko ato,” Ouano said.

The delivery of the supplies is scheduled for the last week of July, with students expected to receive their Edukahon kits in August.
