Easterlies bring cloudy skies, scattered rains across parts of PH

Most parts of the country will experience cloudy skies with rain showers and thunderstorms on Saturday due to the easterlies or warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

In its 5 a.m. forecast, PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres said the easterlies will affect the eastern sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, bringing cloudy conditions and intermittent rainfall in several areas.

Torres said the Davao Region, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga Region are expected to have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.

She warned that moderate to at times heavy rainfall may trigger flash floods or landslides in vulnerable areas.

“Train is expected in the Davao Region, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga region,” Torres said in the forecast, referring to rainfall activity brought by the easterlies.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will likely experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or localized thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon or evening.

Visayas and the rest of Mindanao may see generally fair weather conditions, although localized thunderstorms remain possible during the afternoon and evening hours.

“This kind of weather may last for 3 to 5 days but since it has a longer span, it can still change,” Torres said.

PAGASA said no low pressure area is currently being monitored inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, while no gale warnings were raised over any seaboards.

The agency also reported light to moderate winds and slight to moderate sea conditions across the archipelago.

Forecast temperatures for Saturday include 25°C to 33°C in Metro Manila, 18°C to 24°C in Baguio, 26°C to 38°C in Tuguegarao, and 26°C to 32°C in Cebu and Davao.
