P10K cash aid given to quake survivors

Cash assistance and rice aid continue to reach survivors of the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck offshore Bogo City in September 2025, as the Cebu Provincial Government carries out successive distribution activities in northern Cebu towns.

A total of 1,394 beneficiaries from Medellin and Daanbantayan received P10,000 each during the first payout held at the Medellin Sports Complex on Wednesday, May 20, alongside 10 kilos of rice provided by the Office of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Provincial records showed that 1,092 recipients were from Medellin, while 302 were from Daanbantayan, bringing the day’s total assistance to P13.94 million.

Another round of distribution is scheduled on Thursday, May 21, in San Remigio, where 3,438 beneficiaries are set to receive P34.38 million in calamity aid.

Combined data from both payout schedules show that 4,832 beneficiaries are expected to receive a total of P48.32 million from the provincial government.

Governor Pamela Baricuatro said the release of assistance came months after the earthquake due to earlier processing and approval delays but emphasized its continued importance for affected families.

She also acknowledged previous logistical issues during distribution, describing them as a “learning curve” and assuring improvements in succeeding payouts.

Local chief executives from Medellin and Daanbantayan joined provincial officials during the Medellin distribution, where beneficiaries queued for assistance.

Following the payout activity, Baricuatro inspected ongoing infrastructure rehabilitation projects in northern Cebu, including the reconstruction of the Piyo Bridge in Tabogon.

The bridge project, valued at P16.8 million, is part of at least 13 bridge rehabilitation and reconstruction projects currently underway across earthquake-affected areas in northern Cebu.
