Residents in Cebu continue to experience intense heat as the heat index reached 41°C on Thursday, May 14, 2026, according to the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA).

PAGASA reported that today’s heat index reached the same dangerous level recorded in previous days, bringing uncomfortable and potentially harmful conditions, especially for those exposed to direct sunlight for long periods.

The heat index refers to the “feels like” temperature, which combines the actual air temperature and humidity. Higher humidity levels make the body feel hotter because sweat evaporates more slowly, reducing the body’s ability to cool itself naturally.

Health experts warn that prolonged exposure to extreme heat may lead to heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke if proper precautions are not observed.

Authorities are reminding the public to take extra care during the hottest hours of the day, particularly from late morning until afternoon. Residents are encouraged to stay indoors whenever possible, drink plenty of water, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities.

The public is also advised to:

* Wear light-colored and loose-fitting clothing

* Use umbrellas, hats, or protective coverings when going outside

* Avoid drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, coffee, or sugary beverages

* Never leave children, elderly individuals, or pets inside parked vehicles

* Watch for signs of heat-related illnesses such as dizziness, headache, nausea, rapid heartbeat, and extreme fatigue

Workers assigned outdoors are encouraged to take regular breaks and remain hydrated throughout the day.

Meanwhile, PAGASA continues to monitor weather conditions and advises the public to stay updated through official announcements and advisories.
