The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is set to energize several major transmission projects this year, focusing on grid stability, reliability, and capacity to meet growing electricity demand.

Among the projects targeted for completion in 2026 are the Amlan-Dumaguete 138kV transmission line with an ERC-approved cost of PhP 1.9 billion, the Tuguegarao-Lal-lo (Magapit) 230kV transmission line costing PhP 2.4 billion, and Stage 1 of the Tuy 500/230kV Substation, which includes the Tuy-Dasmariñas 500kV transmission line component, with an ERC-approved cost of PhP 8.1 billion.

NGCP also expects to finish the Nabas-Caticlan-Boracay 138kV transmission line with a cost of PhP 4.2 billion, and the Tacurong-Kalamansig 69kV transmission line costing PhP 757.98 million.

The company plans to complete Stage 2 of its Visayas Substation Reliability project as well as the relocation of steel poles along the Hermosa-Duhat 230kV transmission line within the year.

NGCP said these projects are intended to address economic drivers such as load growth, system reliability and security, power quality, and the integration of new generating plants, both renewable and non-renewable, while complementing major initiatives like power grid backbones and island interconnections.

In 2025, NGCP completed upgrades and expansions at 14 substations to improve grid stability.

The Castillejos Substation received a 1,000MVA transformer, while the Calaca and Concepcion Substations were each fitted with new 300MVA transformers.

Substations in Corella, Toril, Pitogo, Maramag, Dingle, Calbayog, and Paranas were upgraded with 100MVA transformers, the Davao Substation with a 150MVA transformer, and the San Jose and Mabinay Substations with 50MVA transformers each.

A 100MVA expansion at the Iloilo Substation, part of the Panay-Guimaras Interconnection project, was also completed in April 2025.

Voltage improvements were carried out at the Tigaon, Malvar, Baybay Load-end Station, Sta. Barbara, and Zamboanga Substations.

These accomplishments reflect NGCP’s commitment to delivering safe, secure, and reliable power transmission to its customers.

“Despite ongoing challenges in right-of-way and permitting, we remain focused on completing these projects within the year,” the company said.

NGCP also renewed its appeal for support from the Department of Energy, other government agencies, and local government units, urging the swift approval and release of necessary permits to ensure uninterrupted implementation of critical transmission projects.

“The cooperation of government agencies and LGUs is essential to keeping our projects on track and meeting the country’s growing power needs,” the company added.
