Even in the shadow of a P2.5 million bounty on her life, Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro took time to publicly thank the Philippine National Police for their protection.
On Monday, February 9, Baricuatro posted on social media her gratitude to the PNP leadership and personnel for their swift response following the death threat against her.
“I extend my heartfelt thanks to [PGen Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.], Chief of the Philippine National Police, Regional Director PGen Maranan, Provincial Director PCol. Mangelen and the men and women of the PNP for their swift, professional, and steadfast protection following the death threat against me,” she said.
“Your dedication to public safety and the security of elected leaders underscores the strength and resilience of our institutions. I am grateful for your support and will continue to work with you to safeguard our communities,” the governor added.
The PNP confirmed it is actively investigating the alleged assassination plot.
Intelligence reports indicate that a hired gun from Mindanao was allegedly tasked with carrying out the hit outside Cebu.
Nartatez said regional personnel have been mobilized to step up security measures and identify those behind the threat.
“We have already mobilized our regional personnel not only to step up the security measures but also to identify and run after all those behind this threat,” he said.
Additional tactical security personnel have been deployed to ensure there are no gaps in Baricuatro’s protection.
The PNP continues to coordinate with local authorities and maintain a visible presence in all areas frequented by the governor.
Nartatez emphasized that similar security measures extend to other public officials facing harassment or threats while performing their duties.
Baricuatro has addressed the threat publicly, stating that she remains “fearless in the face of death” and will continue serving the public despite the danger.
