Over 5.3 million affected by adverse weather; 27 deaths being verified

More than 5.3 million people have been affected by continuing adverse weather conditions across 10 regions, with 27 reported deaths being verified, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said Wednesday.

OCD public information officer Diego Mariano said the affected population had reached 5.39 million, equivalent to nearly 1.54 million families in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, the Cordillera Administrative Region and the National Capital Region.

Mariano said 461 evacuation centers were sheltering about 12,194 families, or 42,203 people.

Government assistance provided to affected communities has reached around P797 million, he added.

The OCD is verifying reports of 27 fatalities linked to the adverse weather conditions.

Of the reported deaths, 15 were in Benguet, while Rizal and Batangas recorded three each. Caloocan had two, while La Union, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro and Negros Occidental reported one each.

The number of injured remained at 17, while one person was still reported missing.

The OCD also recorded around 1,787 partially or otherwise damaged houses and 206 totally destroyed houses.

Authorities continue to monitor affected areas and provide assistance to communities displaced or impacted by the weather conditions.
